Six-team will play championship playoff and eight team qualifying playoff. However, it’s important to remember that all teams will get starting points based on their performance during the season. Before you start betting on Danish Superliga you have to understand this structure! It’s more likely that there will be more draws at the second half of season, as best teams will play against each others and so on.

Denmark superliga predictions: League structure

Denmark superliga was expanded to 14 teams after the 2015-2016 season. This was achieved by relegating the last placed team and promoting the top three teams from the 1st division. The 2016-2017 season features the new league structure where teams get to play home and away matches resulting in a total of 26 games for each team. At the same time, the league is split into two groups. One group consists of six teams that compete for championship playoff while the other group, comprised of eight teams, compete for qualifying playoff. Table points and goals for each team are considered entirely in the playoffs.

Danish Championship playoffs

In championship playoffs, each team plays home and away. The team that emerges at the top at the end of the playoffs becomes the Superliga champion and is entered in the UEFA Champions League in the second qualifying round. The runner-up of the Superliga is introduced in the EUROPA League in the first qualifying round. The second runners-up are up for another playoff match before qualifying for Europa League. In rare cases, the fourth team is always considered for the playoff match if the winner of the Danish Cup finishes in the top three of the Superliga.

For the case of the qualifying playoff, teams are split into two groups. One group has teams that finished 7th, 10th, 11th, and 14th, in the regular season while the other group has teams that finished 8th, 9th, 12th, and 13th altogether. Each team in the group then plays home and away matches.

The teams that emerge top in each group then progress to a knockout tournament with two legs. If the Danish Cup winner team is one of the top two teams in either of the playoff groups, it is withdrawn automatically, and the opponent advances to the tournament finals. The emerged winner then face the third-placed or fourth-placed team from the Championship playoff in a one-off match. The winner then automatically enters the Europa League in the first qualifying round.

Denmark League relegation play-off

Two teams from the bottom of each group then compete in a relegation playoff with several steps centred on a separate four-team knockout playoff. This playoff consists of two-legged matches where the winner of semifinals advances to the final, losers of the semifinals playoff over two legs with the loser being relegated to 1st division. The team that wins the final play plays 1st division runner-up, and the loser of the final game plays the third placed team in the 1st division. Winners from both games play in next season’s Superliga.

Denmark league predictions key points:

Goal average

The new Superliga structure also affects to the amount of goals, as same level teams typically play a lot games where under 2,5 goals is a default. Average Superliga game has a goal average of 2,68. So it´s bit lower than for example in Bundesliga 2,74, Serie A 2,79 or Premier League 2,81. However this is only because of the new structure. So, keep this in mind while betting! Favor over 2,5 goal bets in first 26 rounds. Then change for the under 2,5 goals  in last rounds where best teams face only each others.

The importance of home advantage:

Danish league teams  have not massive home advantage. Denmark it is so small country that distances to other cities are very limited. Referees are also very incorruptible and home fans do not have a strong effect on their decisions. That is something you only know after reading our Denmark superliga predictions.

The strongest teams:

Denmark Football league has one team over others. FC Copenhagen, Danish writing style F.C. København. They are the strongest team with a massive budget. However, they play eurogames every year and often struggle in Superliga  if they have UCL or UEL game at the same week. Other big boys are Brøndby, Midjylland and FC Nordsjælland.
